Which satellite carries your channels?

Pick a language to see the satellite we’d point at, roughly where it sits in the sky from Surrey, and the size of dish it usually takes.

Ways we can bring your channels in

Every home is different, so our engineer checks the view of the sky and your existing dish before suggesting anything.

Drawing of a satellite dish with signals from several satellites

A dish for one satellite

A dish sized and aimed for the satellite your channels are on, with a receiver set up in your language.

Drawing of a dish with two LNBs

UK and international together

Two LNBs on one dish, so you can watch Sky or Freesat and channels from home without a second dish.

Drawing of a monoblock LNB on a dish

Two nearby satellites

A monoblock LNB picks up two satellites close together, such as Hotbird and Astra 19.2°E, on one dish.

Drawing of a motorised satellite dish

Motorised dishes

A dish that turns to many satellites on demand, for households that want channels from several countries.

Drawing of an engineer aligning a satellite dish

Larger dishes

Weak signals such as Türksat need a bigger dish and alignment to a fraction of a degree, done with a signal meter.

More rooms

International channels in the kitchen or bedroom, with a cable and receiver in each room.

How we set up TV from abroad

Channels from other countries come from different satellites, each sitting at its own point along an arc in the southern sky. To pick one up, the dish has to point at that exact spot, and it has to be big enough to gather a signal aimed mostly at another part of the world.

For one satellite we fit a fixed dish. For two that sit close together, a second LNB on the same dish often does the job. Where you want several, a motorised dish can turn between them, though it is slower to change channel and needs a clear view across a wide stretch of sky.

We also set up the receiver, which matters more than people think. Many foreign channels need a particular box or a viewing card from the broadcaster, and we’ll tell you before the visit if that applies to yours.

What affects reception from Surrey

Some satellites are easy from here. Others need care.

PLAN 123456
Where the beam points
Satellites aim their signal at particular regions. Those aimed further away need a bigger dish here.
Position in the sky
Satellites well to the east or west sit close to the horizon, where roofs and trees block them.
Dish size
A larger dish gathers more signal and holds on in rain. We size it to the satellite.
Box and card
Some channels need a specific receiver or a subscription card from abroad.
Wall or pole
A large dish needs a strong mount. Sometimes a ground pole works better than the wall.
Planning rules
Very large dishes may need permission. We’ll tell you if yours is likely to.

International satellite questions

Can I keep Sky or Freesat and add international channels?

Usually, yes. Depending on the satellite, we fit a second LNB to your existing dish or a separate dish beside it, with a switch so your boxes see both.

Why do some countries need a bigger dish?

Each satellite aims its signal at a particular area. If the UK sits at the edge of that area, like it does for Türksat, the signal is weaker here and a bigger dish is needed to gather enough of it.

Are the channels free?

Many are free to air. Others need a subscription card from the broadcaster in that country. We’ll tell you which is which before anything is fitted.

Can I put up a second dish without planning consent?

Most houses can, within rules on size and where it goes, and stricter rules for flats, listed buildings and conservation areas. We’ll site it to stay within the rules.

Can you fit a dish to a flat?

Often, with the freeholder’s permission. In blocks that ban dishes, a shared rooftop system can sometimes carry international satellites too.

Can you set up the receiver for me?

Yes. Channels are tuned and sorted into your preferred order, and we walk you through the remote.

Can I keep my Sky and add foreign channels?

Often, yes. A second LNB or a second dish can sit alongside your Sky dish without affecting it.

Do I need a special box?

For free channels, most satellite receivers will do. Some subscription services need their own box and card.

Can you set up channels for more than one country?

Yes, either with two LNBs on one dish, two dishes, or a motorised dish that turns between satellites.
