Aerial repairs in Surrey and beyond

No picture, a frozen screen or an aerial lolling against the chimney pot? Our engineers repair TV aerials all over Surrey and Kent, and into West Sussex and south London. You get a technician who tracks down the fault and fixes it, not someone sent to sell you a new system.

Aerial faults we fix every week

Every repair starts and ends with a meter reading, and the engineer shows you both numbers.

Drawing of an engineer repairing a chimney aerial

Storm damage

Masts snapped, lashings loose and aerials blown round. Made safe, then refitted on fixings that will last.

Drawing of a TV aerial on a chimney

Realigning

If the aerial turns even slightly off target, whole channels can go. Our engineer re-points it while watching a signal meter.

Drawing of a TV mid-retune

Lost channels

Channels missing since a retune or transmitter change, tracked to the cause and put back on every set.

Drawing of a wall cut away to show TV cables and a socket

Cables and sockets

Water-damaged coax, crushed runs and failed wall plates replaced with proper satellite-grade cable.

Drawing of a loft with an aerial cable running through it

Loft amplifiers

Dead amplifiers and splitters swapped for filtered models, so every room gets a fair share.

Drawing of a phone mast near a house with an aerial

4G and 5G interference

Freezing that began when a mast went up nearby, cured with the right filter in the right place.

What is your TV doing?

Tell us whether it’s the whole house or one set, then pick the symptom. A couple of the quick checks fix things without a visit. If not, send the fault straight to our engineers.

Every channel has gone

Likely causes

  • Rainwater inside a joint on the outside wall
  • Gusts have turned the aerial off target
  • A masthead or loft amplifier has lost power

Try this first

  • Check the amplifier power unit, usually near the loft hatch, is plugged in and lit
  • From the garden, check your aerial points the same way as next door’s

When we come out. Readings at the roof, the loft and every wall plate show us where the break is, and we mend it and retune every set.

Blocky pictures and sound dropping out

Likely causes

  • A weak or reflected signal, often after new building or tree growth
  • Corrosion inside an old aerial or its connection box
  • Interference from a nearby phone mast

Try this first

  • Note whether the worst channels are all BBC, all ITV or a mix
  • Watch whether it gets worse in the evening or in wet weather

When we come out. Readings at the roof show whether it’s the aerial, the cable or interference, and we fix that rather than guess.

Aerial leaning, bent or down

Likely causes

  • A chimney lashing has stretched or snapped
  • The bracket has rusted where it meets the wall
  • Storm damage to the mast or the aerial elements

Try this first

  • Stay clear of anything loose and never climb up yourself
  • Send us a photo from ground level so we can bring the right parts

When we come out. Safety comes first; then the aerial is refixed or replaced and check the chimney fixing is sound.

Lost some channels after retuning

Likely causes

  • The TV has locked onto a more distant transmitter
  • Signal on one multiplex is too low to hold

Try this first

  • Run a full first-time installation retune rather than an update
  • Write down which channels are missing

When we come out. We confirm which transmitter suits your address, re-aim if needed and tune each TV to it.

One TV or one room is bad

Likely causes

  • A tired fly lead or loose plug
  • A damaged wall socket
  • The signal splitter feeding that room

Try this first

  • Borrow the lead from a TV that’s working and try it
  • Try that TV on a different socket

When we come out. We find which link has failed and replace it, then check the signal level at that socket on a meter.

New room or extension has weak signal

Likely causes

  • The cable run is long or uses old, thin coax
  • Too many rooms share one signal without an amplifier

Try this first

  • Compare the picture with the TV nearest the loft
  • Count how many TV points share the aerial

When we come out. A filtered amplifier and good-quality cable to the far rooms usually brings them level with the rest.

Repair or replace?

Most aerials we see can be repaired. Tell us what you can see from the garden for our first view, which the engineer then checks on the roof.

TV aerial repair questions

How do I know if it’s the aerial or the TV?

A fault on all the sets at once lives in what they share: aerial, downlead or amplifier. A fault on a single set usually sits in its own lead, wall plate or tuning.

Will you work on an aerial another company put up?

Certainly. The brand and the installer make no difference to us, and parts that still work properly stay where they are.

Is a storm-damaged aerial covered by insurance?

Many home insurance policies include it, so it’s worth checking yours. Our engineer can tell you what caused the damage and what was done to put it right.

My picture only breaks up at night. Why?

Evening dropouts often come from interference or a signal that is only just strong enough. We measure the signal margin and fix the weak link.

Can you fix a communal aerial in a block of flats?

Yes. A block-wide outage means the shared equipment has failed. We deal with the managing agent and bring every flat back.

Where do your aerial engineers work?

All of Surrey, Kent, West Sussex and south London, from our base in Redhill. Tell us your town and we’ll confirm.
